New Panoramic Photographs of The Venetian Pool

I took the family to visit The Venetian Pool in Coral Gables, Florida last Sunday. We had only peeked in the gates before and it was the last chance to visit and swim in the pool before they close for major renovations.

Built in 1924 from a rock quarry and fed by an artesian well, this is one of the most pristine examples of old Florida I’ve seen. If it looks like solid wood beams it is at The Venetian Pool. No fiberglass simulated wood and stucco over foam here. This place is the real deal and as a result it exudes a charm that just can’t be fabricated with space age polymers and big budgets. Granted, the pool itself is made out god knows what mystery stuff, but it is a pool and I’m sure it takes a beating. The pool holds an enormous 800,000 gallons of water, and it is BIG. There are a couple of waterfalls, and a fake cave you can swim through.

There is a small cafe which I didn’t check out, but the decor and architecture would be worth driving out of the way for even without the pool.

Obviously I’m writing this because I shot some
panoramic photos while there, so I hope you enjoy them.

Let’s hope that the renovations don’t mess up this great old attraction. I should also mention that it is even more fun swimming there than it looks like.
