Photos from Suriname

By John Potter

Go to Indian Village

I want to share some photos I shot in Suriname. They can also be accessed through the Panoramic Photography page and the Google Earth file where you can get a better idea of their locations.

The one above was shot in an indian village near Paranam. Despite their meager earnings I noticed they had installed a new rain cache system. They are smart people.

Go to Bergendal

The above series of photos were shot at the Eco Resort called Bergendal. It’s a really nice place and these photos should give you a good idea of what it’s like there.

Go to Fort Zeelandia

Fort Zeelandia is a museum, a historic landmark, a place of history and much more. It is truly a place that exceeds the sum of it’s titles.

Located right in Paramaribo the fort was originally built in 1651. It is a five pointed defensive structure with a mixed history. It has been used as a fort, barracks and prison before becoming a museum and ironically returning to a barracks and prison during the 1980s period of the “December Murders” and the regime of the former military dictator Desi Bouterse. In 1995 the fort once again became a museum and has flourished since.

Go to Fort New Amsterdam Lightship

Also at Fort New Amsterdam is this amazing abandoned lightship. The inlet it occupies has been neglected as much as the ship so the ship is nearly on dry land.
I wanted a higher resolution photo of the vessel than my camera was capable of, so I shot multiple photos and used software to stitch them together later. I didn’t have time to bracket and I had no tripod head, so no HDR, but despite it’s many faults I think it’s pretty cool.

Go to Palmentuin

Palmentuin, or Palm Garden in English, is a nice restful place in Paramaribo.

Go to Dental Center

Also be sure to visit the Dental Center in Paramaribo.
