I want to share some assorted projects that I have recently worked on.
First off is an illustration I did under contract of CityStreetz Graphics in Hollywood, FL. The illustration is for a package design. Gil and Luis at CityStreeetz did the final design work. I don’t do a lot of caricature or cartoons, so this makes a nice addition to my portfolio. My rural South Carolina upbringing was a real asset on this project.
Another couple of recent projects were for Hello Junk Removal up in Palm Beach County. These hard working folks wanted some graphics to show their area of operation and give people an idea of the capacity of one of their containers.
If you hadn’t already noticed I have also had recent updates to both the Flamingo gardens map and the Dinosaur World, Plant City, Florida map.

I just finished a little project for Flamingo Gardens here in Davie, Florida that I would like to share. It wasn’t a big or complicated project, but sometimes potential is where you make it and I did my best to make this rack card something special.
The folks at Flamingo Gardens approached me with a request to update their children’s parties rack card. The one they had was very straight forward. It had some stock photography laid out nicely and a party hat had been Photoshopped onto a parrot and flamingo’s heads. It was nicely done, but reserved and it seemed to appeal to parents wanting a quiet and orderly event rather than kids wanting to have fun.
I came up with a fairly nutty illustration concept and began moving toward something that looked pretty finished to show them right away. Although my early sketches showed potential to me, I think they would have looked kind of crazy to anyone else. I didn’t think a written description of the illustration could possibly sell them on the idea either. I was convinced that if they saw it they would like it. Although I had risked wasting some time, they did like the concept when they saw it and everything went smoothly. Now Flamingo Gardens has a nice new rack card to advertise their birthday party package and I have a nice illustration I am happy to add to my portfolio.
I just redesigned this brochure for Flamingo Gardens in Davie, Florida. I used a lot of design elements from the previous brochure I designed for them, which was basically the reverse side of the visitors map. I used the flamingo illustration I did for the previous brochure since I figured Flamingo Gardens really needs a flamingo on everything. I also used the same style of headers. This gives their publications a more cohesive look.
Flamingo Gardens Gets A New Visitor Brochure
By John Potter
I am pleased to announce that Flamingo Gardens will be releasing their new map as well as a new brochure of my design within the next few days to weeks.
I’ve posted a lot about the map already, but I haven’t mentioned the brochure that is the other side of the printed map.
It is highlighted by an illustration I did in Adobe Illustrator in kind of an Art Deco style to fit with the historic and classy nature of the venue. The font used in the title is “Potter Slim Deco”, which I designed and is available for sale from the downloads page. The spot illustrations are largely made from pieces of the map, thereby tying it all together. The final brochure was constructed in Adobe InDesign.
A larger image of the main illustration alone can be seen in the illustration gallery.
