Hallway Wall Art
Client: Boca Grove Golf and Country Club

This mural decorates a hallway used by the staff of Boca Grove Country Club to access different parts of the facility. It had become a collection point for clutter and management wanted to encourage the staff to take sufficient pride in the area to reduce clutter. I very much admire their carrot rather than stick approach to the problem.
Since the function was thought through more than the content we went through several wide ranging options. The concepts I presented ranged from contemporary and almost decorative to the more subdued and straightforward approach that was settled on.
The project took five weeks. I used a projector rather than tracings as I usually do. This technique was more cost effective than tracing and I didn't have a lot of unwieldy tracing paper all over. The projector worked well since there are no windows in this area but the hallway was barely wide enough to accommodate it.
I worked off of a white background to maximize the brightness of the acrylic paint which tends to have at least some transparency. I started out painting the primary points of interest in the foreground. This took some pressure off of me since I and the client both saw quick progress. Next I painted the sky and I really zoned out and enjoyed that. I used limited photographic reference for the sky and I honestly like what I did from my imagination better.
Next came the wetlands area to the right and finally the golf course to the left.
Many thanks for the great help from Ley Potter. I wish I could have had her around more.
